FAQs

  • What is multi-pitch climbing?

Multi-pitch climbing means ascending routes longer than one rope length by climbing in stages ('pitches'). At the end of each pitch, you build an anchor, belay your partner up, then continue to the next pitch. It's how you climb tall cliffs and big walls.
  • Do I need trad climbing experience for multi-pitch?

It's strongly recommended but not always required. Many multi-pitch sport routes use bolted anchors. However, trad skills dramatically expand your multi-pitch options. Rock-About's guide will assess your skills and select appropriate routes.
  • How long does a multi-pitch climb take?

A 3-4 pitch route typically takes 3-5 hours depending on difficulty and efficiency. Longer routes (8+ pitches) can take a full day. Rock-About's course focuses on building efficiency so you can tackle longer routes confidently.
  • Is multi-pitch climbing dangerous?

Multi-pitch climbing requires additional skills—rope management, belay transitions, and route-finding. These add complexity but with proper training, multi-pitch is manageable. Rock-About's AMGA-certified guides teach you systematic techniques that minimize risk.
  • What gear do I need for multi-pitch climbing?

Standard climbing gear plus additional slings, anchoring materials, and sometimes trad gear. Rock-About provides all gear for the course. You'll learn what gear is needed so you can build your own rack afterward.
